Coronation Street and Emmerdale have once again been taken off air this evening (Friday, March 27) amid a major ITV schedule change.
Instead of the usual soap power hour, ITV is set to air live coverage of the international football from 7pm.
The match, which sees England take on Uruguay, is set to kick off at 7:45pm.
The friendly game will be broadcast live from Wembley Stadium as both teams prepare for this summer’s FIFA World Cup finals.
But fear not, soap fans, as both Corrie and Emmerdale will be back on our screens sooner than you think.
When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale back on screen?
Both soaps will return to our screens on Sunday, March 29 on ITV1.
Emmerdale will air first at the earlier time of 7pm, with Corrie set to follow at 7.30pm.
In the Dales, Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) latest actions look set to cause anguish for Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) when he orders workmen to demolish everything in one of Butler’s Farm’s old fields – including Holly Barton’s memorial.
Elsewhere, ahead of her exit, Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) is hopeful that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) will make it in time to say goodbye to granddaughter Frankie – but will he get there?
Over on the cobbles, the walls are set to crumble for Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) as Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) family and friends gather to support him.
Meanwhile, Mal Roper (Tim Treolar) drops a bombshell on Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and warns Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) that when Dev dumps her, he’ll be waiting in the wings.

Soap fans won’t be pleased
This is far from the first time our favourite ITV soaps have been shifted to make room for sports coverage, and Metro readers haven’t been shy in the past about how frustrating they find the changes.
While some argued that sports have their own channels and should be shown there, others pointed out that it always seems to be the soaps that are sacrificed.
Others suggested that there should be a special soaps channel to avoid this issue entirely, while others admitted that they didn’t mind the changes as long as they still got the same amount of episodes each week.
At the beginning of 2026, ITV had a huge shake up in their schedules as they cut the output of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale by 30 minutes, switching to week-nightly half hour instalments.
The move came about as a result of research into audience viewing habits, with bosses deciding to create what they dubbed a ‘soap power hour’, which was kicked off by the epic Corriedale crossover event.
