In Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) darkest hour, the Coronation Street legend is saved by her very own guardian angel… an obnoxious, scrappy little angel.

If anyone needs a miracle, it’s poor old Deb. After being framed for dangerous driving and manslaughter by professional sleazebag Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) – her brother who actually turned out to be her son – the sassy manager of the Chariot Square Hotel is currently looking at a long stay at His Majesty’s Pleasure.

Prison is a scary place for anyone, especially if you happen to be struggling with dementia. Debbie’s diagnosis is the reason Carl was able to pin the Corriedale crash on her in the first place. Now she’s behind bars and separated from her loving husband Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and brother Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), alone and confused. What Debbie needed was someone on her side…

Enter Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty). Corrie fans were delighted to recognise this familiar face from the Cobbles, introduced back in 2019 when she and her family moved in next door to Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) as part of a ‘Neighbours from Hell’ storyline – and boy, they weren’t kidding.

After her husband was sent to prison for killing beloved Cobbles copper Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), Lou herself was later sent down for brutally assaulting Gary Windass (Mikey North). The couple’s children Joanie (Savanna Pennington) and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) were fostered by Tim (Joe Duttine) and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor).

Now Lou has forged an unlikely partnership with Debbie as she helps her new friend navigate prison life. She’s even defended her against fellow inmate Paula (Kelli Hollis), who started a fight with Debbie when her dementia caused her to speak without a filter.

Unfortunately, Lou’s time with Debbie is set to come to an end, as actress Faye Heggarty recently confirmed that her character has bowed out of Weatherfield once more.

‘I’m out of the show now. I’ve stopped filming’, she said in an episode of the Girlfriend Material podcast. ‘I came back in Corrie for, like, a short stint. I was [initially] in it for six months and I came back because I’m in prison. She’s in prison. She’s not a good girl.’

With Debbie’s appeal coming up, this is her one chance to escape prison and rejoin her nearest and dearest on the Cobbles. The only thing that could spoil her chances is saying the wrong thing – which is happening more and more thanks to her advancing dementia. Ever since Debbie was sent to prison, her condition has taken a rapid turn for the worse due to her routine being altered. Lou has helped Debbie best she can, but when the appeal goes badly, upcoming episodes of Coronation Street will see the jailbird make the ultimate sacrifice for her friend.

Lou does her best to make sure Debbie’s appeal goes smoothly.

As Debbie and Lou head back to their cells, suddenly Debbie becomes disorientated – a telltale sign that her dementia is worsening. Will she get through the appeal?

On the day of the appeal, things get off to a bad start when Debbie accuses a prison officer of stealing her journal. Worried that Debbie is about to blow her chances of getting out of jail, Lou causes a distraction… by starting a fight with another inmate.
