Guess whose seat got hotter this time? It’s none other than the ESPN College GameDay host, Kirk Herbstreit. Yes, we know how Herbstreit has been trending on social media for quite some time now. He got into an ugly scuffle with analysts Shannon Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith. The reason? Rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes HC Ryan Day. While the drama started to slowly fade out, fans were waiting for another opportunity to strip him. And VOILA! They got lucky. Looks like they are now questioning whether Herbstreit is a man of his word. After all, the analyst claims one thing and does something else when it comes to his social media presence.
The year’s ending must have been hard for Herbstreit to deal with. Well, we get it. His intentions have been pure. When the majority of the college football world went against the Ohio State HC, Herbstreit chose to stand out of the crowd. Even if he had to be on bad terms with his fellow analysts, Herbstreit gave zero care. Now that weeks have passed since the verbal scuffle with Sharpe and Smith, nobody talks about that much. But evidently, now they are talking about Herbstreit and his son. So a little rewind, an unfortunate event occurred that moved Herbstreit. As per the reports, wildfires raged across Los Angeles County killing five people while many have been left homeless. That’s when the analyst tried to show support for those in California impacted by this week’s wildfires.
Just woke up and seeing how devastating the fires are in Southern California-we obviously just left that area calling the Rose Bowl-know so many people that are in harms way-thinking and praying for everyone’s safety in that region

He tweeted in January 8, “Just woke up and seeing how devastating the fires are in Southern California-we obviously just left that area calling the Rose Bowl-know so many people that are in harms way-thinking and praying for everyone’s safety in that region .” Is there anything bad in that tweet? Definitely not. It showed his real concern. However, his presence on X came off as a shock. A few days back the analyst claimed to have erased his X account and now his latest post sounds like it came from him.
After the hoopla, maybe he thought of taking a break from social media that ripped him for showing “College Football Playoff bias” towards certain programs. On January 6, on On3’s Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman’s podcast, he claimed, “I deleted Twitter a long time ago. I don’t have it. I just have a buddy — my son tweets stuff out — It’s ridiculous. I don’t read anything. I don’t see anything. Nothing.” Two days later a tweet came from his account. Obviously, this did not sit well with the fans.
Social media fans refuse to let Kirk Herbstreit off the hook
The College Football Playoff semifinals are knocking at the door. Just before that social media fans ensured to give Herbstreit a tough time as he will be returning for the Cotton Bowl Classic. If he thinks that the fans have forgotten what he claimed on the podcast about staying away from X, he is mistaken. Not just hate comments, one of them even quoted the analyst. He also pointed out that his constant communication with the Buckeyes fans on social media did not go unnoticed. “Kirk Herbstreit says he is not on social media. ‘I don’t have it. My son tweets stuff out… I don’t read anything. I don’t see anything.’ Yet he has called out the “lunatic fringe” Ohio State fans for… their comments on social media. ,” wrote a user.
Now what better timing to pull Herbestreit’s legs? A fan comes up with a theory stating how the analyst was responsible for starting the fire, “Los Angeles Fire Department says there are unconfirmed reports that the fire was started by a pair of pants Kirk Herbstreit left in the dresser of his Pacific Palisades Airbnb.” It was actually followed by a photoshopped picture of Herbstreit that would definitely give you a good laugh as it shows the analyst’s pants on fire.
Another fan came up with a sarcastic reply claiming that he believes that to be Herbstreit’s son as he wrote, “Glad to know Kirk’s son is awake and said his morning prayers.” “Why is your son tweeting in the first person?,” another fan ridiculed the tonality of the statement questioning how it could be the analyst’s son. Instead of thanking Herbstreit for his concern, a fan straightaway thanked his son, exposing how the analyst contradicted his statements, “Very nice of you to show concern, Kirk Herbstreit’s son. ” Well, it could be his son posting as if it’s his own father behind the keyboard. But are the fans buying it? You can now see they are not!
