Jamie Lee Curtis says she doesn’t really love the horror genre
Jamie Lee Curtis has admitted that she doesn’t really love horror, despite her legendary status in the genre. Her candor has taken fans by surprise, given her unforgettable performances in films like Halloween.
“I don’t really love it,” Curtis shared at a SXSW panel over the weekend (via Entertainment Weekly). “I’m not joking; I’m not into it. It doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it. It’s just not my genre, not my thing.”
She further added, “I owe my life to the genre, but I don’t have to pretend that I’m a genre girl and that I love it.”
Jamie Lee Curtis was destined for stardom, growing up surrounded by cinematic legends. Her mother, Janet Leigh, was the unforgettable Marion Crane in Psycho. Curtis followed in her footsteps, making her film debut in Halloween (1978) as Laurie Strode, the iconic “final girl.” She cemented her status as the scream queen, going on to star in six Halloween sequels. She even shared the screen with her mother in the 1980 horror-mystery movie, The Fog.
While she isn’t particularly fond of the horror genre, Curtis expressed that she has always loved the independent filmmaking aspect associated with it. During the panel, the Freaky Friday star further remarked on the evolution of the public’s perception of horror over the years.
Her latest major project is the thriller series, Scarpetta, alongside Nicole Kidman. The gripping show is based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling novels and premiered on Prime Video in March 2026. She is also producing the upcoming film, Ella McCay, through her production company, Comet Pictures, alongside other projects.
