A devastated Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) takes a big step in her attempt at moving forward after Zoe Slater’s (Michelle Ryan) death in EastEnders.

The character first arrived on Albert Square in 2000, alongside the rest of the Slater clan, and was part of some of the BBC soap’s biggest storylines during that time, including the revelation that Kat was her mother.

Zoe died in September after sustaining a head injury in a scuffle with a man who was selling her beloved grandad, Charlie Slater’s (Derek Martin) cab.

In the final moments of her life, Zoe headed downstairs and found Max Branning (Jake Wood) in the arms of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). She begged Max for help but he dismissed her, believing that Zoe was drunk.

As a result, Zoe was left to die alone.

In the aftermath of the death, Kat discovered that Zoe had left a 999 call. Most of it wasn’t audible, but she was able to hear Zoe say that ‘he left me’.

Knowing that someone could’ve perhaps saved Zoe, Kat became completely focused on finding out who that person was.

Amid her need for revenge, though, Kat is slowly adapting to life without her eldest.

In upcoming episodes, following the funeral, Kat reaches another milestone in her grief journey as she decides to clean out Zoe’s room.

Elsewhere, in recent scenes, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) learnt that Max was the last person to see Zoe alive after a slip up from Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier).

Cindy was shaken to the core, but there was also a part of her that was undoubtedly elated, knowing that she now has the leverage needed to destroy Max once and for all.
