If Caleb Miligan (William Ash) thought Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) vendetta was going to end with wife Ruby’s (Beth Cordingly) premature burial in Emmerdale, he’s nowhere near as clever as he thinks he is.

No, despite Joe’s ‘keeper’ of sorts, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), promising the Miligans that the feud was over, Joe had absolutely no intention of letting them get away with what they tried to pull on him.

Only a couple of months ago, Caleb and Ruby went all in on trying to destroy Joe’s relationship with Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), allying with Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) to frame Joe as a being behind a violent attack on him.

The end game was to see Dawn leave Joe standing alone at the altar and flee the village with Billy and their children, alongside Joe’s unborn baby, but their vile scheme collapsed at the last minute, with Dawn realising she’d been played.

Heading back to the wedding marquee, Dawn asked Joe to go through with the wedding, moments before Jimmy King’s (Nick Miles) car crashed into them.

Though it seemed Dawn would pull through, delivering their baby boy and planning a proper wedding ceremony with far less carnage, she slipped away as a result of her injuries.

In truly horrific scenes, Joe buried Ruby alive in a shallow grave before drugging Caleb and bragging to him that he’d left his wife to suffocate in the most horrific way imaginable, before Graham intervened and ensured Ruby survived.

Dissatisfied with letting the Miligans get away with their actions, Joe decided to act through a proxy instead, hiring arch-bitch and fellow villain Sadie King (Patsy Kensit), initially to dig for dirt on the couple and report back with something Joe could use.

Fully aware of her seductive allure and ability to manipulate men, though, Sadie decided on a different approach and vowed to rip the couple apart by taking Caleb for herself.

Scoring a job with Ruby and moving in to their home, Sadie immediately set about convincing Caleb that Ruby is an alcoholic, while also manipulating Ruby into believing that Caleb is a control freak who exerts too much power over her.

This week saw Sadie spike Ruby, adding alcohol into her mocktails, before engineering a situation that saw Caleb arrive at the pub just in time to catch Ruby drunkenly collapse on Ross Barton (Michael Parr).

Heading home to find a devastated Caleb, Sadie secured victory when he declared that things between him and Ruby were over with, before sleeping with Sadie, a moment she films to use as evidence.

Next week sees Joe taunt Caleb with the information he now possesses, though Caleb fires back that Ruby would never believe his claims but Joe’s ready for that, and smugly bites back that while that may be true, she would believe her new ‘bestie’, Sadie, sending Caleb off on a mission to try and annihilate their friendship forever.

Joe finally has everything he needs to bring Caleb’s entire world down – but how will he use it?

Emmerdale airs these scenes from Monday, November 9 at 8.00pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
