The entire nation is currently grieving the loss of a celebrated Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg. For the unversed, the singer died in a scuba diving incident on September 19, 2025. The singer who passed away at the age of 52 was in Singapore to perform at the 4th North East India Festival and was scheduled to perform on September 20, 2025. In the most recent update on the news, an FIR has been lodged on the event manager for the accusation of criminal negligence. The manager was accused of bringing the singer to a poorly managed event, which caused Zubeen's untimely death.

FIR lodged against Shyamkanu Mahanta

As per the latest report, an FIR has been filed against Morigaon Police Station in Guwahati, against the event manager of the 4th NortheastIndia Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta. Ratul Borah was the advocate who filed the FIR, and he accused Mahanta of bringing Zubeen to a poorly managed show, which became the reason for his death at the age of 52.

According to the local Northeastmedia reports, the manager was in connection with the foul play, which was connected with the sad incident.

The FIR was lodged on the basis of these allegations. There were also allegations of criminal negligence against Shyamkanu Mahanta.

Unconfirmed reports say that Zubeen was at a party during the evening of September 19, a day before his performance was scheduled.

It is said that the singer went swimming without a life jacket and got a heart attack in the water. Despite the intense efforts of doctors, he could not survive the attack.

Shyamkanu Mahanta's first reaction after the news

Shyamkanu Mahanta and his team released the first statement after Zubeen's death on September 19, 2025. The statement that was released was, "With profound grief, we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved icon, Zubeen Garg, passed away today at Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 PM. Zubeen had arrived in Singapore just the day before yesterday. He was scheduled to be with us at the festival tomorrow, meeting and interacting with people. Earlier today, our entire team was engaged in a business meeting with senior Singaporean industrialists and policymakers at the Shangri-La Hotel to facilitate investments in Northeast India."

The event manager also said, "During the meeting, we received a call from Zubeen's manager informing us that he had met with an accident and had been rushed to Singapore General Hospital. We later learned that a few members of the local Assamese community had taken him on a yacht visit, of which we had no prior knowledge."
