The much-awaited release of the Milly Alcock-led Supergirl would have prompted many Zack Snyder fans to ponder the brief appearance of Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El in the now-defunct DCEU. However, much to the dismay of such fans, the upcoming DCU adventure won’t have any remnants of the Snyderverse Supergirl, according to writer Ana Nogueira.

Ana Nogueira talks Supergirl’s connection to Zack Snyder’s DCEU

In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, Nogueira, who also worked on a Supergirl script for the Snyderverse, confirmed that nothing from the canceled DCEU project has “carried over” to the Craig Gillespie directorial feature.

“Completely different,” she said bluntly when comparing the two Supergirl versions. “No, honestly. Nothing carried over. Isn’t that crazy? It was really brand new. I think the only thing that was helpful was because of all that I knew so much about the character. I knew so much. But even the destruction of Krypton was different. The Woman of Tomorrow [comic] was really the guiding light.”

Notably, Supergirl was introduced in Zack Snyder’s DCEU just months before Warner Bros. decided to pull the plug on the franchise. Sasha Calle of Young and Restless fame donned the mantle of Kara Zor-El in this iteration, making her debut in 2023’s The Flash. Prior to the movie’s release, Calle even expressed her desire to return as the Kryptonian superhero, adding that she would like to feature in a big-screen adaptation of Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow comics.

Nevertheless, James Gunn’s recruitment as the DC Studios co-CEO ultimately resulted in Calle’s firing from the role.

Interestingly, Milly Alcock, who has since replaced Calle as Supergirl in Gunn’s revamped DCU, will make her feature-length debut in a movie that draws inspiration from the Woman of Tomorrow comic run. The movie is the second theatrical entry in the DCU and will hit theaters on June 26.
