Russell Crowe had already dreamed about becoming a star long before Gladiator cemented him as a Hollywood heavyweight. He started out in the 1980s as a musician, releasing several non-charting singles, including one titled “I Just Wanna Be Like Marlon Brando,” making his ambitions crystal clear. He would go on to step into the same limelight Brando walked in, winning an Oscar for his portrayal of Maximus in Gladiatorjust a little over a decade later. But he didn’t get to the Colosseum and its glory by accident. He had made his intentions known with his early performances.
