X-Men’s Maisie Williams Wants Another Shot at Playing Her Marvel Character, But There’s Bad News

Maisie Williams wants to revisit her Marvel role from the X-Men franchise, but there is bad news for the actress. Williams was part of the final, lesser-known installment in 20th Century Fox’s long-running superhero saga before Disney acquired the studio.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Maisie Williams revealed that she really wants another chance to play Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane in the X-Men universe. The former Game of Thrones star portrayed the role in 2020’s X-Men spin-off movie The New Mutants.

Williams said, “I liked playing Rahne, Wolfsbane, in the X-Men movie.” When asked if she would like to revisit the character, the actress replied, “We gotta bring that back. Maybe it’ll be 28 years after the first. But I think we should.”

Despite her wish to return to Marvel, it seems Williams won’t get to reprise her X-Men role because of The New Mutants’ poor reception. The film failed to impress both critics and fans alike. It currently holds an abysmal Tomatometer score of 36% and a Popcornmeter score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Maisie Williams isn’t the only Marvel star whose past role could return in the X-Men universe

It may seem tough for Maisie Williams to make a comeback as Wolfsbane, but another New Mutants actress may have secured her return.

Anya Taylor-Joy, who played the role of iconic Marvel character Illyana Rasputin/Magik, is rumored to reprise her role in the MCU. A few months ago, insider My Time To Shine Hello claimed, “Kevin Feige is reportedly interested in bringing Anya Taylor-Joy back as Magik.”

Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any plans for her return, meaning fans should treat unverified reports with caution.

In The New Mutants, Taylor-Joy’s character was a Russian mutant equipped with teleportation abilities and a magical Soulsword. While the film struggled at the box office, The Queen’s Gambit actress earned praise from fans for her standout performance as Magik.
