X-Men MCU Reboot Movie Finds Its Cyclops & It’s Not Who Fans Expected

Marvel Studios has cast Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, in its upcoming reboot. Following rumors of Cooper Hoffman being eyed for the role, Marvel has surprised fans with its actual casting.

According to a report from Deadline, Marvel Studios has cast Kit Connor as Scott Summers in the film. Connor will be the fourth actor to play the character on screen, following James Marsden, Tim Pocock, and Tye Sheridan.

Before Connor dons the iconic visor, Marsden will return as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday. Connor is the second official cast member for X-Men, following the casting of Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.

How Kit Connor emerged as Marvel Studios’ top choice for Scott Summers

According to the report, Connor landed the role last week after Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier met with various candidates. Sources told the outlet that the film had been holding auditions for the role over the last couple of months.

Connor previously worked on Warfare and The Wild Robot, and is most well-known for playing Nick Nelson in Netflix’s Heartstopper TV show. The actor recently appeared in the cinematic conclusion to the series in Heartstopper Forever. He will be seen next in Alex Garland’s feature film adaptation of the video game Elden Ring, which is scheduled to release in 2028.

Cyclops is a fan-favorite character, leading the X-Men team in most of his appearances. While his powers allow him to shoot optic blasts, it also inhibits his ability to move around without his glasses. The character has a long history of being in a complicated relationship with Jean Grey, who will be played by Sadie Sink in the MCU.

X-Men is being directed by Jake Schreier, known for helming 2025’s Thunderbolts. The film is expected to be released following Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for late 2027.
