A bottle of prosecco, a wide-brimmed hat, and a toy boy in the bathroom. Women are officially claiming that 2026 is going to be a ‘divorcée summer.’
But the catch is, this trend doesn’t actually have anything to do with getting divorced. Instead, it’s about embracing a certain kind of lifestyle – one that banishes negative energy and celebrates all things fabulous.
Coined by comedian Tatty Macleod, the influencer showcased her ‘divorcée summer’ look in a recent Instagram video.
Rocking a pink hat and sleeveless white dress with a sheer skirt, Tatty explained to her followers: ‘I want it to look like I belong on a yacht. I’ve got a couple of houses, various dead husbands, and a toy boy in the bathroom.
‘I just travel and spend,’ she added.
It was just last year that Brat Summer took over our entire lives, but from the looks of the comments, the girlies are all in agreement that this sunny season is going to be all about living life like a divorcée.
While the #MobWife aesthetic was all about leopard print and razor-sharp attitude, having a divorcée summer is all about nonchalant elegance.
Picture a garden party in an Agatha Christie novel or a scene on the beach in the new season of ‘The White Lotus’, these women are ladies of luxury.
They never roll their own suitcase and they’d never be seen dead without a glass of pale Provence in hand.
Dame Joan Collins, recently declaring the start of ‘M&S rosé season’ is the perfect example. Her fifth husband must be having a hoot.
Are you on-board with having a 'divorcée summer'?
Of course, we’ll add the sensible caveat that real divorce isn’t half as chic as this caricatured version. But a number of women, both married and unattached, have taken to the idea of a fantastical divorcée summer.
In the comments section of Tatty’s video, one user, @meabh.a.maguire wrote: ‘I like to introduce my husband as “my first husband” – I feel that aligns 100% with this vibe.’
@byemily_rose added: ‘Completely agree. Doing the same thing, but I went a step further and moved to Italy.’
Tatty was also praised for channelling ‘Meredith Blake energy’ – the oh-so-iconic character from ‘The Parent Trap.’
Now if anyone understands the power of a ‘divorcée summer’, it’s that diva.
Living a ‘divorcée summer’ isn’t about revenge, it’s about self-confidence. A woman embracing this aesthetic doesn’t need to impress anyone, she’s far too glamorous and unbothered for chores such as people pleasing.
She’s a woman about town, flitting from one fabulous social event to the next, never flustered, never overwhelmed — always entirely in control.
And, as Tatty herself (happily married, no less) points out, you don’t actually need to be divorced to channel the vibe.
Simply throw on a pair of cat-eye sunglasses, slip into a plunging neckline, and start telling people your fourth husband is away on business.
Whether you’re in Saint-Tropez or Streatham – the ‘divorcée summer’ isn’t a bad omen, it’s a state of mind.
