Woman arrested on suspicion of murder after woman in her 90s dies in fire

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a house fire killed a woman in her 90s in Gloucester.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on Elmgrove Road West in Hardwicke, Gloucestershire, shortly before 4am this morning.

A woman in her 90s was found unconscious inside and was pronounced dead after emergency services attempted CPR.

A woman in her 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident, Gloucestershire Police said.

The suspect was known to the victim, officers confirmed, adding it ‘appears to have been an isolated incident’.

The woman in her 60s remains in police custody. A police cordon remains in place on Elmgrove Road West while investigations continue.
