William Shatner has reassured fans after he was rushed to the hospital for a medical emergency.

The 94-year-old Star Trek icon, who cemented his status playing Captain James T Kirk on the hit sci-fi show and its movies, was admitted to hospital after an issue involving his blood sugar, sources revealed.

The incident occurred late on Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles, with Shatner calling emergency medical workers as a precaution.

A Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance was dispatched to his home and the actor was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

In a post on Instagram on Thursday, the 94-year-old acting legend addressed the hospital dash, sharing a moustached photo of himself with the caption: ‘Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.’

He added: ‘I overindulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine.’

He made his debut as the captain of the starship Enterprise in the second pilot of the first Star Trek television series in 1966, with his last appearance in the movie Star Trek Generations in 1994.

He’s also baffled fans in recent years with his youthful appearance for a man in his nineties.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Shatner joked: ‘When you’re 93 and people start clapping, you get a little bit suspicious.’

He’s set to hit screens next for the holiday-themed drama Family Tree, which he co-created and stars in alongside Tom Bergeron.
