With the series having concluded with Season 4, many are eager to know why more installments weren’t made.
Here are all the details.
Was Mr. Robot Season 5 canceled?
No, Mr. Robot Season 5 wasn’t canceled. The creator had pre-planned the series’ run. It concluded with Season 4, tying up all loose ends and wrapping up the story arcs in a satisfactory manner.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Sam Esmail revealed that after Season 3 was completed, he headed to the writer’s room to understand how much story was left off. He also mentioned that they already had an ending in mind. Esmail also added that he wanted an honest opinion from the writers on the remainder of the story.
“The way we came to this decision is, after we wrapped Season 3, we went back into the writer’s room, and this whole time we’ve had the ending in mind, that’s what we’ve been building up to, and as an exercise, I decided to put the last two episodes of what would be the series finale up on the board and I just asked the writers, if we were being honest with ourselves, how much story do we have from where we ended Season 3 to these last two episodes?” he added.
After evaluating, Esmail reached the conclusion that Season 4 would be the final chapter of Elliott’s story. He further said, “It’s [Season 4] a little bit longer than our usual 10-episode season. To us, it was very fascinating to do it this way because it was really the story letting us know when it was time to end it.”
Season 4 concluded with Episode 13, titled “Hello, Elliot,” which premiered in December 2019. Viewers can catch up on all the seasons on Netflix.
