ABC’s Scrubs reboot has fans buzzing, but it also sparked rumors about Judy Reyes leaving High Potential. The actress, best known for playing Carla Espinosa on Scrubs, is returning to Sacred Heart Hospital for the new series. But with Reyes already a lead on another ABC hit, fans began to wonder if she might be stepping away from High Potential.
Is Judy Reyes leaving High Potential after Scrubs casting?
Judy Reyes is not leaving High Potential. While she is reprising her iconic role as Carla Espinosa in the Scrubs revival, her commitment there will be limited to recurring appearances. ABC has already reportedly confirmed that special scheduling accommodations were made so Reyes could continue starring as Selena Soto in High Potential.
That means fans don’t have to worry about losing her as the no-nonsense lieutenant who keeps her detectives on their toes. Reyes remains central to High Potential, where Soto played an important role in launching the “Morgan experiment” last season and continues to push her team to new heights in Season 2.
Meanwhile, the new Scrubs project will see most of the original cast return. This includes Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke. The series will follow JD and Turk as they navigate a changed medical world, with their legendary bromance intact. Reyes will reprise her role as the assertive head nurse, Carla Espinosa. She played the character for all nine seasons of the original series and for which she won two ALMA Awards.
This means viewers will get the best of both worlds. Reyes will continue to lead the Major Crimes division on High Potential while making special appearances to keep the nurses (and doctors) at Sacred Heart Hospital in line. It’s a win-win for audiences who get to enjoy her talent on two different networks. So, while her character in the Scrubs reboot may be recurring, it does not come at the expense of her central role on High Potential.
