ABC’s daytime talk show The View finally broke its silence on the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! This came after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr suggested that the agency should review their program next.

On the September 22 episode, Whoopi Goldberg and her co-hosts made it clear that they were not going to shy away from the controversy surrounding Kimmel’s removal.

Goldberg opened the conversation by saying, “Did y’all really think we were not gonna talk about Jimmy Kimmel? I mean, have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? You know, no one silences us.” She added that while networks can pull shows or hold hosts accountable, the government should never apply pressure to silence speech.

The panel then aired clips of senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul weighing in on the issue. Goldberg specifically called out former President Donald Trump, questioning why he still seemed to misunderstand the First Amendment.

“You can not like a show, and it can go off the air. Someone can say something they shouldn’t and get taken off the air. But the government cannot apply pressure to force someone to be silenced,” she emphasized. Sunny Hostin agreed, noting that the president of the United States should have a clear grasp of what free speech entails.

Ana Navarro thanked loyal viewers for expecting “truth and courage” from the panel, acknowledging the criticism the show faced when it didn’t initially address Kimmel’s suspension.

She also reflected on her upbringing in Nicaragua under both right- and left-wing dictatorships, warning viewers about the dangers of government overreach. “At first, they come for the people with big platforms; they silence the press. But then they come for all of us,” she cautioned.

The controversy stems from Jimmy Kimmel’s September 15 monologue, in which he criticized right-wingers for politicizing the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
