This past weekend was particularly difficult for Warner Bros., in more ways than one. The legendary studio's takeover and subsequent rebranding by Paramount appear to have taken effect, while its ambitious new movie Digger delivered a historic underperformance at the box office. Starring Tom Cruise, Diggergrossed $20 million worldwide in its opening weekend, against a budget that some have reported to be as high as $180 million. It will go down in history as the final film in Warner Bros.' run as an independent entity, as well as one of the biggest box-office bombs of its kind. The film's release also marked the departure of studio chiefs Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca, whose tenure saw W.B. attain unmatched highs and incredible lows. After delivering seven straight movies that opened north of $40 million at the domestic box office in 2025, the studio has had a rough 2026. One of its biggest underperformers is a sequel to a cult classic '90s film.
