Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton will be sidelined for at least two weeks after being diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain. Head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed the injury update on Wednesday, October 28, noting that the point guard is considered week-to-week as the team begins a recovery and re-evaluation process.

The injury serves as a significant setback for a franchise that had only recently welcomed its centerpiece back to the floor. Haliburton missed the entire 2025-26 season while recovering from a torn right Achilles suffered during the 2025 NBA Finals. This new strain affects the opposite leg, a development that often occurs when athletes subconsciously compensate for a previous major injury during a return to high-intensity competition.

The Pacers’ backcourt depth is currently facing a critical shortage. In addition to Haliburton’s absence, primary backup T.J. McConnell is sidelined for at least one week with a right hamstring strain. Andrew Nembhard has also been limited by neck soreness, leaving the roster nearly devoid of experienced primary ball-handlers. To address the situation, the Pacers reportedly consulted with a specialized hamstring expert on Wednesday to refine the recovery protocols for their training staff.

Haliburton’s impact on the floor was immediate upon his return this October. Through the first four games of the 2026-27 season, he averaged 21.8 points and 9.5 assists while shooting an efficient 51.6% from the field and 37% from three-point range. His presence is statistically vital to Indiana’s competitiveness; without him last season, the team struggled to a 19-63 record, finishing 14th in the Eastern Conference.

The two-week timeline suggests Haliburton will likely miss a difficult stretch of the schedule, including matchups against the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Denver Nuggets. The Pacers currently hold a 2-2 record and will need to find immediate production from their remaining guard rotation to avoid a repeat of last year’s slide in the standings.
