Despite what the popular narrative might have you believe, there is still plenty of room for mid-budget movies at the box office. In the last few years alone, several sleeper hits have made their presence felt, either because they featured major stars or because they received word-of-mouth praise. For instance, Materialists grossed more than $100 million worldwide, while the horror film Talk to Me nearly managed to hit the same milestone without A-listers such as Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. At around the same time, another movie — aimed at older audiences — crossed the coveted $100 million mark in its global box office run. The movie recently saw a surprise uptick in streaming viewership, around two years after its successful theatrical run.
