TV icon totally unrecognisable two decades after big soap roles

A former star of The Bill and Neighbours looks totally unrecognisable in his new film role.

Daniel MacPherson, who is 46, became a well-known face in soapland thanks to his roles as PC Cameron Tait in popular police-based drama The Bill, and Joel Samuels in Australian show Neighbours.

Joel lived in Ramsay Street from the late 90s until 2002, when he decided to move away and work as a marine biologist. During what was thought to be Neighbours’ final ever episode in 2022, Daniel reprised his role as Joel.

His The Bill character Cameron worked at Sun Hill from 2003 until his exit in 2007. In the four year period he was on our screens, Cameron found himself in the middle of plenty of dramatic storylines.

Since leaving the world of soap, Daniel’s acting career has gone from strength to strength. Some of his other roles include Arion in The Shannara Chronicles, and he’s also played Detective Senior Constable Simon Joyner in City Homicide.

In his latest role, he appears alongside Russell Crowe and Luke Hemsworth in an action movie called Beast.

Daniel plays an MMA champion in the film, and can be seen showing off an impressive toned physique as part of his transformation.

The trailer for the movie features Daniel’s character – an ex champion mixed marital arts fighter – emerging from retirement to look after his family.

According to Esquire Australia, Daniel bulked up by 10kg and completely committed to a MMA fighter’s lifestyle for the role.

He spent hours in MMA training to transform his look, focused on ensuring he moved like an athlete.

Away from his soap roles and this new movie, Daniel has co-presented Dancing with the Stars, and has also presented the Australian version of The X Factor.
