Donald Trump has demanded the arrest of the United Nations staffers he claims ‘sabotaged’ his appearance at the General Assembly in Manhattan.

Never one to downplay a grievance, the US president warned the stoppage could have left him and the first lady injured, saying that it is ‘amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first.’

In a post on Truth Social, he lashed out: ‘A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday – Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!’

‘This was absolutely sabotage, as noted by a day’s earlier “post” in The London Times that said UN workers “joked about turning off an escalator.”

‘The people that did it should be arrested!’

The only problem – no one has confirmed the escalator was switched off deliberately, or at all.

Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesperson, said a videographer from the US delegation who ran ahead of him may have ‘inadvertently’ triggered the stop mechanism at the top of the escalator.

Trump was also furious about the ‘bad teleprompter’, which went ‘stone cold dark’ during his address to some 150 world leaders.

The problem with that accusation is that the White House was responsible for operating the teleprompter for him, according to a UN official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

As well as the teleprompter, he was also sour about the audio quality for his speech.

Ramping up his complaint, the Republican said: ‘I was told that the sound was completely off in the Auditorium where the Speech was made, that World Leaders, unless they used the interpreters’ earpieces, couldn’t hear a thing.

‘The first person I saw at the conclusion of the Speech was Melania, who was sitting right up front.

‘I said, “How did I do?” And she said, “I couldn’t hear a word you said.”‘

Trump added: ‘This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage.’

He told the UN to save its security tapes regarding the escalator stoppage as the Secret Service will be involved in the investigation.
