HBO appears to have firmly embraced its franchise era with shows such as House of the Dragon, The Penguin, and the upcoming Harry Potter. Harry Potter, in particular, is being regarded as the biggest television event of the year, with an ambitious decade-long plan already in motion. In the meantime, HBO is also doubling down on spin-off shows inspired by some of its other major movie franchises, such as the True Detective-inspired DC Universe offshoot Lanterns. The series premiered to critical acclaim in August, and with the first season nearing its climax, a clearer picture of its viewership has emerged.
