People have come out of their cars on the M6 after a police incident closed traffic.

Traffic has ground to a halt on the M6 near Rugby after a police incident this afternoon.

The motorway is closed in Warwickshire while the police deal with an incident.

A stretch of the motorway is blocked northbound between the M1/A14 and junction J1, while the southbound lanes are closed between J2 Coventry and J1 Rugby.

Frustrated motorists got out of their cars while waiting at the roadblock.

National Highways said: ‘The M6 in Warwickshire is closed southbound between J2 (Coventry) and J1 (near Rugby) and also blocked northbound between the M1/A14 and J1 due to a Police-led incident.
