Andrew Stanton is hinting that more sequels starring Buzz and Woody could be coming after Toy Story 5.
Toy Story 5 arrives in United States theaters in June 2026 from Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel will see Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack reprise their respective vocal roles as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie.
What did Andrew Stanton say about Toy Story 5?
Stanton has worked on all five movies in the Toy Story franchise. While looking back on the first movie for its 30th anniversary, he hinted that Pixar hopes to “keep these stories” coming for fans as time goes on. He noticeably uses the plural stories, suggesting that there could be additional Toy Story movies after the upcoming fifth one.
“I just have to say thank you to the fans for loving this world as much as we do,” he commented, via The Walt Disney Company. “It’s very clear how sincere everybody’s fondness for these characters is, how deep their connections to them are, and we feel the same way. We can’t wait to keep these stories coming for you.”
At this time, there’s been no confirmation or announcement from Disney or Pixar regarding any additional Toy Story movies; that being said, Pixar filmmaker and CCO Pete Doctor recently said the company plans on releasing one original film followed by one sequel in the years to come. By this metric, it wouldn’t be surprising if more Toy Story sequels are made, given the popularity of the franchise, especially if the fifth entry is a hit at the box office.
The synopsis for Toy Story 5 reads, “The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and this time around it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.”
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026.
