Top Gun: Maverick’s Lewis Pullman To Lead New Racing Movie

Lewis Pullman, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Thunderbolts*, will reportedly star in an upcoming motocross movie from director Kaitlyn Mikayla. The film Ragamuffin will mark Mikayla’s feature debut as a director.

Lewis Pullman’s new movie will take him from the skies to the dirt circuits

Lewis Pullman will headline Ragamuffin, a coming-of-age motocross drama movie that Kaitlyn Mikayla is developing from her 2025 short film of the same name. The project reportedly began to take shape after producer David Permut watched the short at Sundance, as per Deadline. Notably, Permut’s previous credits include Blind Date, Three of Hearts, Face/Off, Farce of the Penguins, Struck by Lightning, and The Investigation: A Search for the Truth in Ten Acts. He also served as a producer on 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, which received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, winning two.

Permut is producing the movie through his company, Permut Presentations, with Alex Astrachan. Deadline also reports that the pre-production and financing for the movie are currently underway.

Reflecting on Pullman’s casting, Mikayla noted, “Lewis brings a rare emotional depth and authenticity to every role he inhabits.” The filmmaker added, “Inspired by, and named after, my own father, finding the right actor carried enormous weight. Lewis has an extraordinary ability to communicate entire worlds beneath the surface, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him bring Mad Mike to life on screen.”

Ragamuffin’s plot revolves around Pullman’s character Mad Mike and his 14-year-old daughter as she takes part in a motocross tournament throughout the summer.

While praising Mikayla, Permeu hailed her as “part of the next great generation of filmmakers.” He continued, “It’s a privilege to be working with Kaitlyn. I think the emotionality of the relationship between Mad Mike and his daughter, against the backdrop of the intense world of motocross, will be an exhilarating experience for the audience.”
