Tom Ellis’ Action-Packed Spin-off Is Finally Returning To Streaming

Season 2 of CIA, starring Tom Ellis, will premiere on CBS soon before making its return to streaming on Paramount+. Season 1 aired in February and ended in May, with good ratings.

Tom Ellis’ CIA Season 2 returns next month

Season 2 of CIA returns on October 5 at 9 PM on CBS and starts streaming on Paramount+ on October 6, 2026.

The series was renewed for a second season by CBS in March, a month after Season 1’s premiere. One of the main reasons given for the renewal was the strong viewership it maintained. According to Variety, Season 1 of CIA got approximately 8.4 million views across multiple platforms within a week of its release.

Dick Wolf, Warren Leight, and David Hudgins created the show. While Leight initially acted as showrunner, Mike Weiss took over the role after the former’s exit. Alongside Ellis, the show features a strong ensemble cast that includes Nick Gehlfuss, Necar Zadegan, and Natalee Linez, among others.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series currently holds a score of 63 percent on the Tomatometer based on reviews from critics. However, its score is slightly lower on the Popcornmeter, at 47 percent based on audience reviews.

Recently, Ellis spoke to Radio Times and discussed how he prepared for the role of agent Colin Glass. He shared that he and the cast interacted with real ex-CIA operatives to work on the show and stated that their stories “stuck” with him. He said, “There were lots of things that resonated with me. You have to be a sort of controlled sociopath to work in this kind of environment, basically. It’s a dark, murky, voyeuristic world, and it was just really interesting territory to explore.” Ellis also stated that after the interactions, he was “all in, ready to play an American character.”
