Rich Lee's War of the Worldscould be considered a failure in nearly every sense of the word. It was filmed in 2020 but sat on a shelf for five years. The final product takes H.G. Wells's iconic sci-fi novel and reduces it to a series of Zoom chats, with all the excitement you'd expect from a Zoom chat — unless you think Ice Cubeglowering into a screen for an hour and a half to be exciting. The awful CGI and even worse dialogue in War of the Worlds led to scathing reviews, resulting in a 2% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. By all accounts, this is the worst movie of 2025, but the streaming records tell a different story. War of the Worlds made Prime Video's top ten list for five weeks in a row, prompting the question: Why is such a bad movie drawing in so many viewers?
