Uttar Kumar, a Haryanvi film director and folk singer, was arrested by Ghaziabad Police from a farmhouse in Amroha in relation to a sexual assault complaint made by an actress. According to information, a police squad raided his farmhouse at 4:30 am on Monday, September 15, and captured him while he was asleep. DCP Trans-Hindon Nimish Patil verified the arrest and stated that Uttar Kumar is being sent to Ghaziabad for additional court proceedings.

Why Uttar Kumar's health got deteriorated?

Police sources, cited by The Statesman, claim that Kumar was brought to a private hospital for treatment following his arrest since his health had apparently got worse out of fear of being arrested.

Victim alleges of police inaction

The victim, an actress from Hapur who now lives in Sector 53 of Noida, tried to set herself on fire outside the Chief Minister's Lucknow home nine days before, after which, Uttar Kumar was arrested.

The incident occurred on September 6, after she alleged police had failed to act on her rape report.

Who is Uttar Kumar?

One of the most well-known Haryanvi actors, Kumar hails from the region of Ghaziabad. In 2004, he made his screen debut in the popular movie Dhakad Chhora. Uttar has acted in almost 40 films during the course of his career that has lasted more than 20 years.

Kumar has directed films like Kunwar Sahab, Khataara, Chandro ka Devar, Chacha Bhatija, Rampal Havaldar, and others in addition to his work as an actor.

On July 18, the victim lodged a complaint against Kumar. She alleged that between January 1, 2020, and July 31, 2023, she experienced sexual assault. An FIR was filed on accusations of rape, criminal intimidation, and violations of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, a police officer informed PTI, in response to her complaint.

Kumar is hospitalised

While Kumar remained in the hospital, DCP (Trans-Hindan) Nimish Patil informed PTI that the actor will be taken back into prison once doctors issued his fitness report.

"Police are verifying the allegations, and once the actor is declared medically fit, he will be arrested," Patil said.
