Christopher Nolan has built a career around massive movies that usually dominate discussions for years. From psychological thrillers to superhero epics and sci-fi stories, his filmography keeps getting bigger. Still, Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis, who worked with Nolan, seems to prefer a slightly less talked-about project from the director’s long list of hits.

Andy Serkis names his favorite Christopher Nolan movie

Christopher Nolan first started his directing journey with Following. Since then, he has gone on to make films like Memento, Insomnia, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer. After years of directing blockbuster films, Nolan finally won Best Director and Best Picture at the Academy Awards for his latest film, Oppenheimer.

During a recent interview with Variety, Andy Serkis opened up about the Nolan film he personally enjoys the most. Instead of picking one of the director’s larger blockbuster projects, Serkis chose The Prestige almost immediately.

He also admitted that he rarely enjoys rewatching movies in which he appears, which made the answer stand out even more. “I actually really love watching that film. There are very few films that I’m kind of comfortable watching that I’m in. I do think it is one of my favorite films, actually. Plus, I got to work with David Bowie, of course!”

The 2006 psychological thriller featured Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as rival magicians whose obsession slowly pushed both of them further into dangerous territory. Serkis appeared in the movie as Mr. Alley, who served as Nikola Tesla’s assistant and gatekeeper.

The supporting cast also included Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, and David Bowie. At the time of its release, the movie did not create the same level of noise that Nolan’s later projects eventually would.

However, over the years, though, fans slowly started looking at the film differently. Now, many fans often bring it up whenever discussions about Nolan’s most underrated work come around.
