Ah, the guilty pleasure. By its very definition, a guilty pleasure is the ongoing success of a TV series that is either so bad or so out there that critics loathe its very existence, but viewers can't get enough of. The guilty pleasure has been the saving grace for more critically derided TV series than there are Kardashians — which, in itself, is a whole lotta guilty pleasure. How else do you explain the success of Riverdale, Dynasty, or the king of the guilty pleasures, Baywatch, which ran for 11 seasons based on little more than hunky guys and hot women in bikinis running, in slow motion, across the beach. Which brings us to one series, a reboot of a successful series that could also be accused of being the same, where a resourceful undercover agent fights crime with little more than duct tape and a coat hanger. We are talking, of course, about MacGyver, the 2016-2021 reboot of the original series that aired between 1985 and 1991. Despite an abysmal 25% for its first season on Rotten Tomatoes, MacGyver ran a full 5 seasons before signing off.
