Hopes for a third movie in Jason Statham‘s cult action franchise appear to be fading. Amy Smart, who featured alongside him in both entries, says talk of it has gone silent.
Amy Smart offers a bleak update on Crank 3’s development status
Speaking at Indiana Comic Convention, Smart addressed Crank 3 rumors and told Collider, “I remember hearing that too, and then it kind of died. I didn’t hear anything more.” The original Crank, written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor in their directorial debut, follows LA-based British assassin Chev Chelios (Statham). He is poisoned with a synthetic drug and must keep his adrenaline constantly spiking to stay alive while hunting down those responsible. Smart plays his girlfriend, Eve.
The film’s 2009 sequel, Crank: High Voltage, pushed the outrageous formula even further. Fans immediately wanted more, and throughout the early 2010s, rumors of Crank 3 circulated widely. However, those rumors never became reality, and Smart’s recent comments suggest they likely won’t.
Despite the disappointing update, Smart spoke warmly about both films and her experience working with Statham. “That was wild, such a wild film. I love where Eve goes in the sequel; she’s like stripping now, with a heart of gold. It was fun. Jason’s so professional, he’s such a badass, and he’s so nice. He was always looking out for me and making sure I was comfortable doing my stunts, too,” she said.
While Crank 3 remains in limbo, Jason Statham shows no signs of slowing down. He returns in The Beekeeper 2 in January 2027, reprising his role as Adam Clay under new director Timo Tjahjanto. The original The Beekeeper was a major box office hit, making the sequel one of the most anticipated action films of the year.
For fans eager to revisit Chev Chelios in the meantime, both Crank films are currently available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.
