The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and her fiance Shaun White have split: Reports

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have split and called off their engagement.

People reports that the actress, 36, and Olympic snowboarder, 39, have parted ways after five years together and almost one year engaged.

The pair became engaged last October.

A source told the publication that the split "was a mutual decision" and while it "wasn't an easy one, it was made with love and a deep respect for one another".

Dobrev, known for her role in the widely popular The Vampire Diaries, met White in late 2019 at an event in Florida and they decided to have dinner together.

A few months later they sparked dating rumours when they were photographed riding bikes together in Malibu in March.

The pair then subtly made their relationship Instagram official in April when Dobrev posted a video that White could be seen in.

They continued to show their love and support for each other on Instagram and in interviews but didn't take their relationship public until May 2022 when they made their red carpet debut at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London.

The pair matched in white for the occasion as they celebrated the film which stars Dobrev's friend Miles Teller and her ex-boyfriend Glenn Powell.

Dobrev and White remained steady before becoming engaged last October.

The actress announced their engagement in a post on Instagram.

"RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️" Dobrev wrote in the caption alongside some heartwarming snaps from their proposal showing off the massive sparkler on her finger.

"She said YES 💍♾️," White captioned his own post.

The proposal took place in an elegant setting with a floral backdrop and White pulled out all the stops to ensure it was a surprise.

According to an interview with Vogue White said he enlisted a team of people in the couple's inner circle, as well as staffers from the publication, to help him fool Dobrev into thinking she was invited to an intimate dinner party with Vogue's Anna Wintour.

Dobrev said she realised what was really happening when she walked into the venue and saw White standing underneath the floral arch.

"I went into shock," Dobrev said, later adding that White "said all the right things" before she said yes.

Now, almost exactly a year later it appears the engagement is off.
