It's no secret that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has made a lot of changes to Tolkien's canon story. It's generally unavoidable in any movie or TV show adaptation, since these projects have different limitations from books. Still, part of why Rings of Power is so divisive is that much of its changes really weren't necessary. Many of the most baffling are those that not only shift our understanding of Middle-earth's Second-Age events but will have frustrating implications for the continued story.
