The most-streamed Christmas songs of the 21st century have been unveiledEvery festive season, the UK singles chart becomes something of a two-horse race between Wham!’s Last Christmas and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, while Brits apparently have a penchant for a totally different 80s seasonal hit altogether.
But what about those songs released on this side of the new millennium?
Well, the Official Charts Company recently unveiled a full list of the most-streamed Christmas tunes of the 21st century, to reveal the more modern songs we enjoy when we’re starting to feel festive.
Which British Christmas song from the 21st century is the most-streamed?
Sitting at the top of the list is Leona Lewis’ jubilant original song One More Sleep, released in 2013, which sees the Bleeding Love singer looking forward to being reunited with a loved one over Christmas.
The lead single from Leona’s album Christmas, With Love, One More Sleep was released when the former X Factor winner was still under Simon Cowell’s now-defunct Syco label, and was co-written by Leona, Iain James, Jez Ashurst, Bradford Ellis and Biff Stannard, best known for writing hits for acts like Kylie Minogue and the Spice Girls.

At the opposite end of the “merry and bright” scale is the Coldplay offering Christmas Lights, which sits at number two on the Official Charts Company’s countdown.
Both One More Sleep and Christmas Lights have seen a resurgence in popularity in the streaming era, peaking at number three and number 13, respectively, in recent years.
Controversially, the list also includes a couple of non-Christmas tunes that have become associated with the season either because they were included on festive ads or because they were hits in late December.
It also only includes songs by British acts, meaning that newer releases from acts like Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson and Sabrina Carpenter are now included.
The full top 10 is as follows…
Leona Lewis – One More Sleep (2013)Coldplay – Christmas Lights (2010)Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know (2013)Ed Sheeran and Elton John – Merry Christmas (2021)Alexandra Burke – Hallelujah (2008)The Darkness – Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End) (2003)Sam Smith – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (2014)Jess Glynne – This Christmas (2020)George Ezra – Come On Home For Christmas (2021)Sam Ryder – You’re Christmas To Me (2023)Who are the favourites for the Christmas number one in 2025?
The last two years have seen Wham!’s Last Christmas claiming the festive top spot, and given the 41-year-old track is already at number three in the UK charts, it’s a fair bet it could manage it all over again in a few weeks’ time.
However, George Michael’s iconic composition might have some competition in the form of a new festive offering from Kylie Minogue, which is quickly climbing the charts in the run-up to the big day, and is currently an Amazon Music exclusive.
Other contenders include some non-festive tracks like Taylor Swift’s The Fate Of Ophelia, Raye’s Where Is My Husband! and various Olivia Dean offerings, which are still enjoying chart success despite listeners switching over to Christmas music in their droves.
