A film regarded by many as ‘the greatest summer blockbuster of all time’ is now streaming for free on ITVX.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, this adventure classic was released in 1993 and reinvented blockbuster cinema as we know it, spawning decades of sequels, tie-ins and imitators.
In its characters, Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm and Ellie Sattler would go on to become household names… and that’s not to mention the dinosaurs.
We refer, of course, to Jurassic Park, based on the 1990 novel by Michael Crichton.
The film starred Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern among its all-star cast (which even included Samuel L. Jackson in a smaller role), alongside a park-load of state-of-the-art movie dinosaurs.
Jurassic Park is streaming now on ITVX, after first being added to the streaming platform in April 2025.

Of the six films which followed in the Jurassic series (and now includes its Jurassic World rebranding), Spielberg’s original film is by far the highest rated on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
For once, critics and audiences are united in their appreciation, contributing to an overwhelmingly positive score of 91% each.
Of its many fans, The Guardian described it as ‘fascinating, suspenseful, frightening and skilfully calibrated.’
Meanwhile, Washington Post admired how well the film has aged, describing it as ‘flawless’ after all these years.
‘You want great dinosaurs, you got great dinosaurs, wrote legendary film critic Roger Ebert for The Chicago-Sun Times in 2000.

The film remains beloved with film fans, today, with X user Snakeyjakey91 describing it as: ‘The greatest summer blockbuster of all time.’
‘I genuinely believe Jurassic Park is the greatest movie of all time,’ agreed thestinkinggoose.
‘Honestly, I think Jurassic Park is the most perfect film ever made. And if you disagree then you’ll get jurasskicked,’ wrote JamesRussell88.
TheCinesthetic called it: ‘unmatched, the perfect blend of awe and terror that redefined what blockbuster cinema could be.’

Over thirty years later, and Jurassic Park just celebrated the seventh film in the long-running series.
After being relaunched as Jurassic World in 2015, the franchise ran for a second trilogy with stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Past and present collided with Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022, in which Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm and Ellie Sattler joined forces with Pratt and Howard’s Owen and Claire to battle a brand new – yet very old – threat.

The franchise returned with this year’s Jurassic World: Rebirth, which starred Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey as an all-new team of dino-hunters.
On joining the Jurassic world, Johansson told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’ve been chasing the Jurassic universe for three decades. I would have happily played any kind of dino snack.
Johansson then scored a meeting with Spielberg himself, in an attempt to secure her dream role.
Of meeting the original dino-wrangler, Johansson said: ‘I tried not to be a humongous weirdo and geek out, but after a couple of hours talking to him, he brought it up. He was like, “Oh, I think we’re supposed to be talking about Jurassic?”, and that was my in. So then I felt comfortable being a total nerd.’
The rest, as they say, is (pre)history.
