The first trailer for the new Legally Blonde spin-off Elle has arrived.

Newcomer Lexi Minetree takes the lead as the iconic Elle Woods in the new series, which is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and set years before the events of Legally Blonde.

In the TV prequel, set in 1995, Elle’s world is turned upside down when her parents inform her she has to leave her privileged life in Bel-Air to relocate to Seattle, at the height of the grunge movement.

Over the course of the new teaser, Elle is seen trying to assimilate to her new surroundings while still staying true to herself, mirroring ideas previously explored in the first Legally Blonde film.

An official synopsis for Elle shared by Prime Video has teased: “In season one, Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”

The Elle cast will also include Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney and Zac Looker, while June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott will play Elle’s parents, Eva and Wyatt Woods.

Reese Witherspoon originated the role of Elle Woods in the first Legally Blonde film, which was released in 2001 and featured Luke Wilson, Selma Blair and future Emmy winner Jennifer Coolidge among its supporting cast.

Following the success of the movie, a second film, subtitled Red, White And Blonde, followed in 2003.

Since then, a third instalment, Legally Blondes, was released direct-to-video, focussing on Elle’s British cousins, while a musical theatre production based on the first movie has run on both Broadway and the West End.

The first two episodes of Elle will premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday 1 July.
