An Instagram user named m4nu_axe shared a brief clip on the social media site showing a fan-made alternate ending for The Boys Season 5. In the clip, Homelander goes on a rampage, killing several soldiers. As fans know, the actual ending of the show sees Billy Butcher savagely beat a depowered Homelander before killing him.

“The real ending,” the fan captioned the post, which has drawn 301k likes as of writing. Recently, the Amazon Prime Video show’s two leads, Karl Urban and Antony Starr, commented on the post.

“Wow !! Truly epic, terrifying, brilliant …A real scorched earth ending,” Urban wrote with a clapping hands emoji. Meanwhile, Starr commented, “That’s fun” with a star-struck emoji.

The Boys Season 5 has notably received criticism from many fans. Laz Alonso, who plays Mother’s Milk in the series, also reposted a clip from Our Crazy Stupid podcast on his Instagram stories, which criticized the increased focus on Soldier Boy at the expense of M.M’s character arc. Moreover, Alonso also reshared a reel showing someone saying that Black Noir’s death was poorly handled (via Forbes).

Meanwhile, Urban liked a video criticizing The Boys Season 5 Episode 6 for its story. Starr also liked a user’s post expressing criticism of Episode 7.

Showrunner Eric Kripke has acknowledged the divisive reactions to the finale but expressed no regrets about how it turned out. Speaking with TVLine, he said, “I’m sorry if I disappointed you, but it was the story I wanted to tell.”
