Here's how fast the narrative can evolve during the awards season: it was only a couple of weeks ago that Chloé Zhao's new film, Hamnet, was hailed as the front-runner for the Best Picture Oscar on the back of its tremendous reception at the Toronto International Film Festival. And now, director Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Anotheris earning some of the best buzz to have ever blessed an awards contender. It's his first-ever action movie, and by far the most expensive thing he's ever made. While Anderson is accustomed to critical appreciation — he probably has more films than anybody else on lists of this century's greatest masterpieces — he's also getting the audience's support this time around.
