The Beatles Set Video Offers Best Look Yet at Paul Mescal & Barry Keoghan’s Transformations

A new set video from Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics has surfaced online, offering fans a fresh look at Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan in their roles as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

In the 32-second clip, the actors appear in full costume as production continues across the UK.

The set video features the main cast recreating moments from the band’s early years, including scenes inspired by their time in Liverpool and recording sessions at Abbey Road. Mescal plays McCartney, while Keoghan portrays Starr. Harris Dickinson plays John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn takes on the role of George Harrison.

The four actors appear in the Beatles’ famous hairstyles and period clothing as they work through scenes together. The footage also shows them recreating the band’s mannerisms, performances, and close friendship as their fame grew.

Sony Pictures and Mendes are making four connected movies, with each film told from the point of view of one Beatles member. Together, the films will cover the band’s rise from their early club performances to worldwide fame and their breakup in 1970.

The project is notable because Apple Corps Ltd. and the Beatles’ members and estates have granted full life story and music rights for the scripted films. McCartney and Starr are involved alongside the estates of Lennon and Harrison.

Mendes has also built a large supporting cast around the four leads. Anna Sawai (Shōgun) plays Yoko Ono, while Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) portrays Jane Asher, McCartney’s early girlfriend. 

Mia McKenna-Bruce plays Pattie Boyd, who was married to Harrison, and Daisy Edgar-Jones portrays Cynthia Lennon, Lennon’s first wife.

The four movies are being filmed at the same time, which allows the stories to overlap while showing major events from different perspectives, from each member’s POV.

Sony Pictures plans to release all four films in theaters throughout 2027.
