Our Place/ Shark NinjaFirst there was the microwave; then there was the toaster oven. But over the last decade, something else has taken over the home cooking world: air fryers.
From the crunchiest chicken thighs, to perfectly-cooked pizza, vegetables, and even slow cooked stews, air fryers have revolutionised the way we cook at home.
Not only are air fryers speedier and more energy-efficient than most ovens, but they’ve also been shown to produce much healthier food.
Because air fryers reach high heats and envelop your cooking with air flow from all sides, they require less oil to develop that delightfully crunchy texture than ovens or deep fryers.
But they can do much more than that: air fryers often come with baking, roasting, and grilling functions (among many more), so you can also make cakes or your entire Sunday roast in there, too.
If you’ve not yet jumped on the air fryer bandwagon, the HuffPost team has made it their mission to test all kinds of air fryers to find the best one out there. Keep reading for our verdict.
How we tested the best air fryers
Honey Jane WyattOver the last few months and years, the HuffPost team has tested some of the most popular air fryers out there.
The least amount of time we tested for was two months, meaning each tester had made a variety of vegetables, chips, and meat and fish dishes in their air fryer at the time of writing.
For each air fryer, we considered: its functions, its size and shape, how long it took to heat up, whether it had dishwasher-friendly parts, and its overall functionality.
We favoured air fryers that had settings like ‘max crisp’ that could achieve levels of crunch not accessible in a regular oven or without an air fryer.
We also favoured air fryers that had a window to see the progress of your food, and that didn’t cause a massive eyesore in the kitchen.
Of course, we also considered the quality of the food it produced, and we haven’t included any on this list that aren’t able to produce good-quality meals.
