A project teaming up acting icons Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver appears to have fallen by the wayside.
In September last year came word that filmmaker Joseph Cedar was lining up “Useful Idiots,” a feature at Amazon MGM Studios.
Penned by Callie Khouri (“Thelma & Louise”), filming was originally going to begin back in January this year, and story specifics were under wraps.
Now, months after it was supposed to have begun filming, comes word that the production never began because the project had been scrapped.
Speaking with El Pais, Weaver was asked directly about the project and says of the film’s status. She says: “Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen. But I hope we have another chance.”
Streep remains also attached to Cameron Crowe’s Joni Mitchell biopic to film later this year.
