Telus reports Q2 loss, announces dividend to shareholders

Loss: $1.8 billion (down from profit of $7 million a year ago) Revenue: $4.92 billion (down from $5.08 billion a year ago)Telus Corp. reported its second-quarter loss compared with a year ago as its revenue also edged lower.
The company reported a loss attributable to common shareholders of $1.8 billion or $1.17 per share for the quarter ended June 30. The results compared with a profit of $7 million in the same quarter last year.
Operating revenue and other income totalled $4.92 billion, down from $5.08 billion a year earlier.
On an adjusted basis, Telus says it earned 16 cents per share in its latest quarter compared with an adjusted profit of 22 cents per share a year earlier.
Telus also announced a quarterly dividend to its shareholders of 18 cents per share, payable on Oct. 1.

Shopify reports higher profit in second quarter from a year ago
Shopify Inc. (TSX:SHOP)

Profit: $1.5 billion (up from profit of $906 million a year ago) Revenue: $3.58 billion (up from $2.68 billion a year ago)Shopify Inc. reported a net profit of US$1.5 billion for its second quarter, up from a profit of US$906 million in the same quarter last year.
The company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, says its revenue totalled US$3.58 billion, up from US$2.68 billion in the second quarter of 2025. The increase came as subscription solutions revenue totalled US$802 million, up from US$656 million a year ago.
Merchant solutions revenue rose to US$2.78 billion, up from US$2.02 billion. It reported an operating income of US$488 million, up from US$291 million a year ago.
For the third quarter, the company says it expects its revenue to grow at a low-thirties percentage rate on a year-over-year basis.

Suncor posts higher second-quarter profit of $3.7 billion
Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU)

Profit: $3.7 billion (up from profit of $1.13 billion a year ago) Revenue: $7.8 billion (up from $5.8 billion a year ago)Oilsands giant Suncor Energy Inc. has reported net earnings of $3.7 billion for the second quarter, up from a profit of $1.13 billion a year earlier. That amounted to a profit of $3.17 per share for the quarter ended June 30, up from 93 cents a year earlier.
Adjusted operating earnings, which Suncor considers a better gauge of its underlying performance because it filters out the effects of unusual items, were $3.8 billion, or $3.23 per share. That’s up from the prior-year quarter, when Suncor had adjusted operating earnings of $873 million, or 71 cents per share.
Operating revenues, net of royalties, were $7.8 billion for the period, up from $5.8 billion from a year ago.
Total upstream production was 760,900 barrels per day in the second quarter, down from 808,000 in the same 2025 period.

Thomson Reuters reports higher Q2 profit, raises 2026 outlook

Profit: $448 million (up from profit of $313 million a year ago) Revenue: $1.95 billion (up from $1.79 billion a year ago)Thomson Reuters Corp. reported a second-quarter profit of US$448 million, up from US$313 million a year earlier, as it raised its full-year outlook. The company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, says the profit amounted to US$1.02 per diluted share for the quarter ended June 30. The result was up from 69 cents US in the second quarter of 2025.
On an adjusted basis, Thomson Reuters reported a profit of 99 cents US per share for the quarter, up from an adjusted profit of 87 cents US per share in the same quarter last year.
Revenue for the quarter rose 9%, totalling US$1.95 billion, up from US$1.79 billion.
The company estimates its full-year outlook for total and organic revenue growth to be about 8%, up from its previous 7.5–8% range.

RioCan reports higher profit in Q2 as leasing improves
RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:REI.UN)
Numbers for its second quarter:
Profit: $151.2 million (up from $145.6 million a year ago) Revenue: $304.4 million (down from $361.7 million a year ago)RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust reported net income of $151.2 million during its second quarter, as it hiked some of its forecasts for the year. The result was up from a profit of $145.6 million during the same period last year.
That amounted to diluted net income per unit of 52 cents, up from a diluted per unit profit of 49 cents during the prior-year quarter.
Revenue was $304.4 million during the three months ended June 30, down year-over-year from $361.7 million.
RioCan says its retail committed occupancy reached a record high of 98.8%. The company is now expecting its commercial same property net operating income for the year to grow between 4% and 4.5%, up from its previous estimate of 3.5% to 4%, driven mainly by leasing performance to date and its leasing pipeline.

Sun Life Financial reports $1B in Q2 profit, rising from $716M last year
Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX:SLF)
Numbers for its second quarter:
Profit: $1 billion (up from $716 million a year ago)Sun Life Financial Inc. says its second-quarter profit was up 41% from last year. Sun Life Financial Inc. says it earned $1 billion in its second quarter, up from $716 million a year prior. Earnings for the period amounted to $1.81 per share, compared with $1.26 a year ago.
The Toronto-based insurer attributed part of the increase in profit to favourable public equity market impacts.
Its underlying earnings per share came in at $2.02 during the quarter, rising year-over-year from $1.79.
Kevin Strain, Sun Life CEO, says the company saw strong momentum across its health and individual protection businesses during the quarter.

Canadian Natural reports higher Q2 profit, ups production guidance for the year
Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ)
Numbers for its second quarter:
Profit: $4.5 billion (up from $2.5 billion a year ago)Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. reported a second-quarter profit of $4.5 billion, up from $2.5 billion in the same quarter last year. The company says the profit amounted to $2.15 per diluted share for the quarter ended June 30 compared with $1.17 per diluted share a year earlier.
On an adjusted basis, Canadian Natural says it earned $2.19 per diluted share in its latest quarter, up from an adjusted profit of 71 cents per diluted share in the second quarter of 2025.
The company says it hit record quarterly production of 1,677,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day for the quarter, up 18 per cent from a year ago.
Canadian Natural also raised its full-year production guidance range for the second time this year to between 1,637,000 boepd and 1,682,000 boepd from its previous range of 1,615,000 to 1,665,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

BCE reports second-quarter profit down from a year ago
BCE Inc. (TSX:BCE)

Profit: $558 million (down from $579 million a year ago) Revenue: $6.17 billion (up from $6.08 billion a year ago)BCE Inc. reported its second-quarter profit fell compared with a year ago as its revenue rose.
The company says its profit attributable to common shareholders totalled $558 million or 60 cents per diluted share for the quarter ended June 30. The result compared with a profit of $579 million or 63 cents per diluted share for the second quarter of 2025.
Operating revenue totalled $6.17 billion, up from $6.08 billion a year earlier. The company says the increase came as service revenue totalled $5.5 billion, up 4.3% from a year ago, partially offset by a 16.3% decline in product revenue to $685 million.
On an adjusted basis, BCE says it earned 65 cents per share in its latest quarter, up from an adjusted profit of 63 cents per share in the same quarter last year.
