One of Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing animated movies, starring Academy Award nominee Steve Carell, has finally found a new streaming home with Netflix. During its theatrical run, the 2022 comedy movie has earned a worldwide gross of over $940 million at the box office.

What Steve Carell movie is now available on Netflix?

As of today, Carell’s hit animated comedy film Minions: The Rise of Gru is now officially available to stream on Netflix. It served as the second prequel movie of the Despicable Me blockbuster franchise. Besides Carell, the film also featured the return of Will Arnett and Steve Coogan, who reprise their respective voice roles as Mr. Perkins and Silas Ramsbottom from the main franchise, along with Pierre Coffin as the voice of the titular yellow supervillain sidekicks.

The ensemble voice cast also included Alan Arkin as Wild Knuckles, Taraji P. Henson as Belle Bottom, Michelle Yeoh as Master Chow, Julie Andrews as Marlena Gru, Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jean-Clawed, Dolph Lundgren as Svengeance, Danny Trejo as Stronghold, and Lucy Lawless as Nun-chuck. The film currently holds a Popcornmeter score 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“In the heart of the 1970s, amid a flurry of feathered hair and flared jeans, Gru is growing up in the suburbs. A fanboy of a supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6, Gru hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. Luckily, he gets some mayhem-making backup from his loyal followers, the Minions,” reads the official synopsis. “Together, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto–a new Minion sporting braces and a desperate need to please–deploy their skills as they and Gru build their first lair, experiment with their first weapons, and pull off their first missions. When the Vicious 6 oust their leader, legendary fighter Wild Knuckles, Gru interviews to become their newest member. It doesn’t go well (to say the least), and only gets worse after Gru outsmarts them and suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. On the run, Gru will turn to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles himself, and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.”

The 2022 movie was directed by Kyle Balda, Brad Ableson, and Jonathan del Val, with Matthew Fogel writing the script based on a story by Fogel and Brian Lynch. Executive producers were Latifa Ouaou and Brett Hoffman, with Chris Renaud and Chris Meledandri producing. It also featured a score by composer Heitor Pereira.
