Developer Shift Up is planning to expand its critically acclaimed action game, Stellar Blade, beyond video games.
Stellar Blade to expand franchise with “various derivative works”
In a recent financial report from Shift Up (H/T Eurogamer), a section titled Main Products and Services highlights the success of Stellar Blade, both on PS5 and PC. It is here where the report mentions expanding the franchise by developing “various derivative works.”
“Through this, [Stellar Blade] was able to effectively secure a new user base and further strengthen its position as a global AAA franchise IP,” reads a translation of the report. “We plan to develop various derivative works to expand the [Stellar Blade] IP so that [Stellar Blade] can establish itself as a well-made IP.”
With Stellar Blade seeing tons of success when it launched last year, it is not a surprise that Shift Up is planning to expand on the franchise. In a presentation document from May 2025, the developer revealed it plans to release Stellar Blade 2 by 2027.
When Stellar Blade was released for PS5 last year, it received solid review scores. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it garnered an average review score of 81 across 134 critic reviews. Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim had stated he was “very satisfied” with these scores.
During award show season, Stellar Blade received some nominations, including Best Action Game and Best Score and Music at The Game Awards 2024, as well as Action Game of the Year at the D.I.C.E. Awards.
In the lead-up to Stellar Blade’s PC release, it was marked with a bit of controversy as it was region-locked due to Sony’s PSN requirement. However, a few days after Shift-Up stated it was discussing the issue with Sony, the PSN requirement was removed, with just a handful of countries not able to get the game.
