Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Took Major Idea From Controversially Canceled TV Show

The Mandalorian and Grogu featured several notable set pieces, but one drew inspiration from some of the most controversial parts of the current Star Wars canon. While the set piece never made it to screen, it was supposed to follow up on one of the most talked-about shows set in the galaxy far, far away in recent memory.

Knight Edge Media reported details about what the second season of The Acolyte could have looked like. There was one concept from the season that made its way into The Mandalorian and Grogu. In the cold open to the season, Osha would have faced a Hutt in a gladiatorial arena, something that The Mandalorian did when he embarked on a quest to rescue Jabba’s son, Rotta the Hutt.

The one-year jump would have taken Osha’s story in a very different direction

The Acolyte Season 2 was reportedly planned to take Star Wars as a whole in a new direction. Andor introduced mature themes and ideas into Star Wars canon, and Osha’s storyline with Qimir would have served a similar purpose. The show would have opened one year after the events of the first season and served the fans with a darker storyline.

According to Knight Edge Media‘s report, Osha and Qimir would have shared an intimate scene, similar to the one between Jake Sully and Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar. This would have been the first scene of its kind in Star Wars. However, plans for the second season reportedly remained at the broad-strokes stage and mainly focused on Qimir’s relationship with Osha and Mae.

The Acolyte incorporated elements from the broader Star Wars lore while exploring the franchise’s history in an alternate era. However, many developments that conflicted with established Disney canon led to significant fan dissatisfaction, ultimately resulting in its cancellation despite strong viewership.
