After being dormant for 15 years, Electronic Arts and Full Circle have released Skate (stylized skate.) for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App.
For those unaware, Skate is a series of skateboarding games originally published by EA and developed by Black Box. Rather than featuring the more outwardly arcadey feel of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, Skate introduced the “flick-it” system, which was intended to simulate the foot motions of flicking a skateboard. This new iteration features that gameplay, but within a live-service lens.
Where can you download Skate for free?
With that in mind, that means Skate is free-to-play on all platforms. Simply go to the game’s store page on the desired platform and download the game. It also features cross-platform play with cross-progression, so players can interact with other players on other platforms and can switch platforms without losing progress.
To celebrate Skate’s Early Access launch, EA and Full Circle dropped a new live-action trailer that follows a group of skaters as they skate around the game’s city, San Vansterdam. It also stars some real-life pros, like Breanna Geering, Sean Malto, and Jerry Hsu. Also, iconic skateboarding photographer Atiba Jefferson is also featured. Check out the trailer below.
“We’re thrilled to welcome everyone to San Vansterdam and the best skateboarding the franchise has ever delivered,” said Mike McCartney, Executive Producer of Skate. “We’ve focused on perfecting the core skateboarding experience – capturing the thrill of discovery, individual creativity and the satisfaction of finally landing that insane trick. Early Access isn’t a regular launch, it’s an invitation to help shape skate.’s future as we continue to build and push the boundaries of what this game can be.”
Although Skate is free-to-play, players can get some extra cosmetics, San Van Bucks (premium currency), and access to the Premium Skate Pass Season 1 with the Founder’s Pack for $24.99. There is also the Founder’s Deluxe Pack, which includes some extra cosmetics and San Van Bucks for $49.99. Here is everything included in the latter pack.
