If you're of a certain age, hearing the name Steve Zahn takes you back to thelate 90s and early 2000s comedies, where it was his job to play the hilarious supporting friend. Zahn is still at it in phenomenal, smaller shows like Apple TV's Silo, and he earned an Emmy nomination in The White Lotus, which is why it was so fun to see him stealing every scene in last year's Anaconda. Now he's back in a film which is the exact opposite of comedies about giant man-eating snakes. In She Dances, it's not hyperbole to say that he does perhaps his best work yet. Not only does he co-produce and co-write the script with director Rick Gomez, but he also stars alongside his daughter, Audrey Zahn. She Dances is a movie of firsts. It's Steve Zahn's first screenplay. It's Gomez's first time directing a feature. And it's Audrey Zahn's first time on film. Despite this, She Dances comes off as a tremendously powerful drama about family and loss that's built on the complexity of well-written characters without falling victim to tropes of the subgenre.
