A star from Sky’s Saturday Night Live has expressed hope and relief that maybe one day he’ll be able to own a house, after the show’s successful launch.
Speaking to Metro at the Bafta TV Awards, Paddy Young said that it was during an interview with Dermot O’Leary that he had the sudden realisation it could be possible for him to buy a property in the future.
Being in the presence of the former X-Factor presenter really brought it home (no pun intended) for the comedian from Scarborough, reminding him just how far he had come.
Metro asked Paddy and co-star Emma Sidi how SNL UK had changed their lives. Initially, he said: ‘We don’t know right now how much. But it seems like maybe it might.’
After taking a beat to reflect, the Weekend Update anchor continued: ‘We had an interview with Dermot O’Leary and I thought: “Surely I’ll own a house one day.”‘
He smiled, admitting: ‘Up until then I thought maybe not. […] It’s the O’Leary effect!’
The average price of a house in London is £674,086, according to Rightmove, making it a pretty inaccessible commodity for many.
But if Paddy is already being interviewed by household names like BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary, perhaps a deposit for a property in The Big Smoke isn’t as wild a dream as it once was?!
Emma agreed with her castmate’s approximation, while also giving an answer which she called ‘really boring’: ‘We don’t really have any friends other than each other now, because we have no free time.’

She asked Paddy: ‘Do you see anyone, ever?’
To which he replied: ‘No, and when you do, you’re not really a person.’
The cast have gruelling weeks of writing, rehearsing and filming, all to fill their 75-minute slot on… you guessed it… Saturday night.
They start with a blank canvas on Monday, and by the weekend they have a fully formed sketch show, complete with a live guest and musical act.
‘We have got no idea what we’ll do next week,’ Paddy said.
Emma hammered the point: ‘Literally no idea.’
When asked by Metro if they found that stressful, the pair gave a resounding yes.
Emma added: ‘But it’s very exhilarating.’
Saturday Night Live UK airs Saturdays at 10pm on Sky and NOW.
