The world of fantasy is bigger than ever, and much of its rise in popularity can be attributed to classic movies and shows like The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Fantasy has been around for many years before that, of course, but Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies and HBO’s Game of Thrones shows proved what the genre could do when it’s operating at its highest level. Both franchises have become so popular that they’re still getting new releases to this day, with Game of Thrones having two new shows releasing this year with a movie on the way in 2029. Meanwhile, The Lord of the Rings has a new TV show launching this month and the franchise is returning to the big screen next year in December.
